National Experience Programme 2024

SJOC and British Showjumping are working together to deliver experience opportunities to national showjumping judges and course designers.

The programme is open to all British Showjumping judges and course designers.

Applications for the 2024 programme close on 31 December 2023.

Funding

Whilst the scheme is considered self-funding, a bursary is offered to successful applicants. The bursary comes in the form of allowing a day rate to be claimed, to a maximum of 5 days in total,  which will be payable by British Showjumping on completion of the experience programme. Only those candidates who complete the scheme in full will be eligible to claim the bursary.

Judges

Level 1 Judges 

Stage 1 – Assisting at a Standard show, out of Area/Region (British Novice – 1.30m) 

  • The Applicant will be placed at a show (potentially 1 day) outside of their own Area at a prominent venue. So to widen the experience and to enable new contacts in new environments.  The applicant will be assigned to a Judge to assist them during a standard event. The appointed Judge will submit a written report. 

Stage 2 – Assisting at a Qualifier/2nd Rd show  

  • The Applicant will be placed (potentially 2 days) at a show where there is a Second Rd or qualifier. So to widen the experience.  The applicant will be assigned to a Judge to assist them during the event. The appointed Judge will submit a written report. 

Stage 3 – Shadow a Course Designer at a Large Show/County Show  

  • The Applicant will be placed at a Large Show/County Show (1 day) with a Senior Course designer, to improve their knowledge and understanding of the Course Designer role and the required understanding as a Judge.  The Course Designer will submit a written report. 

Stage 4 – Shadow a National/Stipendiary Steward at a Large Show/County Show 

  • The Applicant will be placed at a Large Show/County Show (1 day) with a National or Stipendiary Steward, to improve their knowledge and understanding of the Stewards role and the required understanding as a Judge.  The Steward will submit a written report. 

Level 2 Judges 

Stage 1 – Assisting at a large show/County Shows 

  • The Applicant will be placed at a large show/County Show (potentially 2 or 3 days) where there is a significant public presence. So to widen the experience for those looking to move to Level 3.  The applicant will be assigned to a Judge to assist them during the event. The appointed Judge will submit a written report. 

Stage 2 – Assistant at a major show (National Shows/National Championship) 

  • The Applicant will be placed at a Major National Championship show (potentially 2 or 3 days) where there is a significant public presence and a significant prestige to the event. So to widen the experience for those looking to move to Level 3.  The applicant will be assigned to a Judge to assist them during the event. The appointed Judge will submit a written report. 

Course Designers

Level 2 Course Designer

So to widen the experience and to enable new contacts in new environments.  The applicant will be assigned to a Course Designer to assist them during a standard event. International Experience Programme 2024

The SJOC International Experience Programme is open to SJOC members who are GBR FEI Officials.
